Ridgeland 122 Covid-19 Administrator Response Guidelines

 

***This guidance is based off of the most recent Illinois Department of Public Health documented title, “Covid-19 Interim Exclusion Guidance - Decision Tree for Symptomatic Individuals in Pre-K, K-12 Schools and Day Care Programs.”

Students will be sent home or denied entry into the classroom if ANY of the following symptoms are present: Fever of 100 or higher, new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain from unknown cause, new congestion/runny nose, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue from an unknown cause, muscle or body aches.

 

 

  • If a student comes to school or develops any of these symptoms while at school, the school nurse will assess the student’s symptoms and the parent may be notified to pick up the child.  If a child is being picked up, the child will be sent to a separate room with nurse or nurse assistant supervision until the child is picked up.  The guidelines below will be used to determine when the child can return to school.
  • If a parent knowingly sends their child to school while sick or with these symptoms, the child may be required to rejoin remote learning at the discretion of administration. 

 



A Covid-19 Positive Test OR Covid like symptoms with exposure to a positive case

IDPH/ISBE Guidance

  • Must stay home for at least 10 days from the start of symptoms and 24 hours with no fever without use of fever reducing medication and a decrease in their symptoms
  • All siblings within the household will be required to quarantine for a minimum of 14 days along with guidance from administration or school nurse. 
  • Any close contact (within 6 ft for 15 minutes or more) will need to quarantine for 14 days.  A close contact on the bus is anyone in the 3 rows in front of and behind the positive case

RSD122 Procedures

  • Evidence of a positive test will need to be provided to the building administration or school nurse
  • The building administration or school nurse will contact the parents of anyone that is a close contact
  • A letter will be sent home to families within the building in regards to the positive case
  • The physical space will be closed to allow custodians to clean the classroom.  Students will be relocated to an alternate setting within the school building as long as in person instruction can resume for that class.  

 

A student or staff member with Covid symptom, but a negative Covid test

IDPH/ISBE Guidance

  • Must stay home until the symptoms improve and 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever reducing medication.
  • The negative test or a healthcare provider note indicating a negative test result is required to return to school.

 

A student or staff member has Covid symptoms but has an alternate diagnosis

IDPH/ISBE Guidance

  • Must stay home until the symptoms improve and 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever reducing medication.
  • A healthcare provider’s note with an alternate diagnosis is required to return to school.

 

Symptomatic individual without Covid test results or a doctor note

IDPH/ISBE Guidance

  • Must stay home for at least 10 days from the start of symptoms and 24 hours with no fever without use of fever reducing medication and a decrease in their symptoms
  • All siblings within the household will be required to quarantine for a minimum of 14 days along with guidance from administration or school nurse.
  • A parent note saying the child’s symptoms have improved and there has not been a fever for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication must be presented to return to school following the 10 days

 

Staff or student is a close contact to a confirmed or probable case

IDPH/ISBE Guidance

  • Must stay home for 14 days after the last exposure to the Covid-19 case and continue to monitor for any symptoms

RSD122 Procedures

 

  • All classrooms are disinfected on a daily basis
  • All high touch areas (doors,light switches, etc) and bathrooms are disinfected multiple times throughout the day
  • Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet (with or without a mask) for 15 minutes or more over the course of a 24 hour period
  • Close contact on a bus would be the three seats in front of and behind a positive case
  • Parents will be required to certify that students do not have symptoms prior to entering the building.  This will be done using a self-certification card that students will need to turn in before entering the building every day.
  • Students will have temperature taken prior to entering the building
  • Parents must accompany a child to the bus stop in the morning.  If the child has a fever when the bus monitor takes their temperature, the child will be sent home with the parent.
